5 tips to get the most from new Windows PCs
- Before you connect your computer to the Internet, download an antivirus, an anti-spyware, and a firewall and install them on your computer. See ‘Get vaccinated: viruses and malware away from your computer for free.’ hot tip for more details.
- When accessing the Internet for the first time, download the latest patches for your computer and any application that came with the computer.
- Install peripherals such as printers and/or scanners. Make sure the latest software drivers are properly installed.
- Install any other applications, including upgrades. Remember to register applications such as your operating system or your security software.
- Create a System Restore point. This ensures that you can revert back to a stable computer if you ever encounter a performance-related problem due to viruses or spyware.
